We took the first hurdle! Nürnberg has reached the next round in the competition for the European Capital of Culture in 2025. At the announcement on 12 December, Nürnberg was shortlisted by the international jury after a presentation in Berlin and is therefore still in the competition. The cities of Chemnitz, Hanover, Hildesheim and Magdeburg join Nürnberg for the final round.

We would like to thank everyone who accompanied and supported the bid process! Thanks to everyone involved, to the artists and cultural professionals, our team of volunteers and the local initiative NUE2025, the employees of the city of Nürnberg and all supporters and partners without whose ideas, projects, input, critiques and visions the application for the European Capital of Culture would not be possible. It’s a positive sign under which to start the New Year, which will be very eventful and exciting with a second bid book, a visit by the jury to Nürnberg, around 30 new projects and many other measures such as an open call and the continued the SONGLINES festival.
