Region supports bid
41 cities and rural districts in the region taking part
41 municipalities, cities, districts and the Middle Franconia district have confirmed their participation in Nürnberg’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 and will provide a total of 6.2 million euros for projects taking place in the region. The regional authorities from the Metropolitan Region had until July 2020 to participate in the Capital of Culture bid by submitting a declaration of intent as regional programme partners.
The involvement of the region is crucial to Nürnberg’s application. In 2025, ground-breaking cultural events will take place in the entire Metropolitan Region and attract an international cultural audience.
All projects in the region will be developed and implemented by partner institutions such as the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, the Iwalewahaus Bayreuth and the Flossenbürg Concentration Camp Memorial. The projects will be developed on a decentralized basis in the years 2021 to 2024, will peak in the Capital of Culture year of 2025 and appear in many places in the Nürnberg metropolitan region.
